The Conservatorium Hotel embodies today’s luxury lifestyle in everything from its heritage site in Amsterdam’s museum district to its cutting-edge design, Green Globe certification, and sustainable cuisine. The hotel occupies an eight-story, late nineteenth- century neo-gothic landmark that, until 2003, held the Sweelinck Music Conservatorium. As of December of 2011, it holds 129 designer rooms and suites, nearly half laid out as duplexes and all lined in oversized windows to let in floods of daylight.
The renovation’s internationally renowned architect, Piero Lissoni, focused his redesign on a mix of old and new, resulting in an artful layering of original and modern styles. The building’s former courtyard, for instance, now welcomes guests as a lounge and comfortable brasserie in a glass-enclosed atrium. Similarly, the six rooms for meetings celebrate old and new in masterfully understated environments. The largest space, the Symphony Room, accommodates up to 120 guests theater style and 90 for dinner. All six come with personalized service and state-of-the-art technology to satisfy the most demanding groups.
As sessions come to a close, participants can adjourn to their rooms, the Conservatorium Brasserie and Lounge, the Tunes Bar & Restaurant, or the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center—the hotel’s full-service spa, yoga studio, and fitness facility with pool. Alternatively, they can step outside to see the neighbors—including three of the world’s most famous museums: the Van Gogh, Stedelijk, and Rijksmuseum.
